New push by Schwarzenegger In California

Now, the Republican governor wants to have new measures to change many aspects of a very blue state into the ideals of a red state. The first is of making it HARDER for teachers to gain tenure, raising it to five years from currently two. This is meeting very hard resistance by The 335,000-member California Teachers Association, who have created a fund of over 50 million dollars to fight the proposals by the governor. The other two proposals are to strip the Legislature of its power to redraw political districts, giving the task to a nonpartisan panel of retired judges, and to allow the governor to cut midyear spending unilaterally when expenditures outpace revenues.
