A Democratic resolution to mandate a timetable from the President on Iraq was defeated 58-40 in the Republican controlled Senate. A Republican alternative that urged that 2006 "should be a period of significant transition to full Iraqi sovereignty," passed 79-19.
This shows that the Republicans are still sidestepping this issue. They do not want anything that binds Bush to actually be accountable. All the Republicans want is to pass resolutions that make it look like the Senate and the government as a whole, is staying accountable, but this is only a false impression.
