Senate Session CLOSED!!!

Today in a bold move, Democrats have closed the Senate. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid moved for Senate rule 21 to close the doors of the Senate chamber. This move was to discuss information leading to the Iraq war. Democrats have stated that current Republican efforts have failed thus far, so they wanted to put this issue front and center in the Senate.

This move comes as a total surprise for all the Republicans and even many Democrats. For this rule to take effect, only one person needs to move to recognize rule 21 and only one person needs to second the motion and it carries. This is the first time in 25 years that rule 21 was not agreed to by leaders from both political parties. Rule 21 has only been issued 53 times since 1929.

Bill Frist, Senate Majority Leader said, "...this lack of respect, the lack of civility is a real affront." And he further said that "This is an affront to our leadership. It is an affront to the United States of America, and it is wrong."

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid countered on the Senate floor when he invoked rule 21 that "I demand, on behalf of the American people, that we understand why these investigations aren't being conducted"

This is the right of the minority and can be used. The Republicans have thus far come out with NOTHING on the pre-war intelligence. This is yielded results. The three Republicans and three Democrats are to report back to Senate leaders by November 14 on this issue. This had to be done as the American people do not have the security clearance to see/listen to the information that would be discussed in the session. The only reason that the Republicans would resent this is if they didn't want to talk about this issue. This needs to be looked in NOW. On this issue, the Democrats are fully within the right thing to do.
