The bill's supporters say that it will limit the drilling to only 2,000 acres. But this is a joke. According to a Forbes.com article the limit only applies to "support facilities, airstrips, areas covered by gravel berms and the pipeline support piers where they actually touch the ground."
This leaves the actual pipeline not counted. As the pipelines are raised off of the ground most of that footprint would not be counted, therefore opening up massive amounts of land to pipelines for oil. Also it requires that 200,000 acres be leased within 22 months of the passage of the bill. 200,000 acres is A LOT different from 2,000. This drilling will hurt America in the end.
We must invest in alternative fuel sources not prolong something that will happen eventually. OIL WILL RUN OUT. We must invest in other sources not just increase production of what we have. The environment and the people of this world deserve more than just more oil.
