The three main points that President Bush will talk about in the speech are health care, oil, and security. Bush will have to do a 180 if he wants any of those areas to not get shot down like Social Security reform was from his previous speech.
Aids of President Bush have said that he will not declare any big reforms or proposals, like in his last State of the Union. Instead he will focus on gathering support for the coming year. This past year has not been good for Mr. Bush and he must turn the loosing trend around.
This is arguably the worst year for support domestically for President Bush and he must rally Republicans leading up to the November election. If the Republicans want to admit it or not, Mr. Bush is the most known Republican right now and he has the most 'make or break' power for them. The Republicans must put their faith of support into the Presidents hands.
This address will be very important as it will show in the coming year if President Bush can get any goals of his passed in Congress or get the support of the American people. With his approval rating hanging around 40%, he will need to work hard on any proposal he hopes to put forth. Mr. Bush has very little political capital left and he must use it wisely.
