Bush challenges hundreds of laws

In an April 30 article, the Boston Globe reported that "President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution."

This is a total outrage. And this issue has not been in any mass media and was only brought to my attention in a blog post on MediaMatters.org.

The Boston Globe article went on to say that "Among the laws Bush said he can ignore are military rules and regulations, affirmative-action provisions, requirements that Congress be told about immigration services problems, ''whistle-blower" protections for nuclear regulatory officials, and safeguards against political interference in federally funded research."

If the President truly has this far reaching power to just disregard a bill AFTER IT IS LAW, than the system of checks and balances is already far gone. This administration has continually attempted to gather more and more power for the President, while leaving the court system and Congress out of any governmental decisions that the president doesn't want them in. Checks and balances is not a choice. It is not even law, it is the CONSITUTION!!! Our government better start living by the Constitution, or else we may never get it back.
