In a recent article posted on the National Education Association's website said that "The U.S. Department of Education today announced that no state will meet a requirement under the so-called No Child Left Behind law that calls for 100 percent of teachers in core subjects to be “highly qualified” by the end of the current school year. States will face possible financial penalties for their failure to meet the law’s June 30 deadline."
This NCLB Act has so far failed. I can say from experience that the education system in America is failing. The schools have been getting worse as more funding is cut because of tight budgets. With less money, a school can do less; it is common sense. We must set up more funding for our schools and increase the requirements nationwide if we will have nationwide standards that the USFG wants to enforce. Instead of just requiring just plain test scores, we should set a standard to graduate.
One example of some of these requirements could be as follows:
• 3 English Credits
• 4 Math Credits
• 3 Social Science Credits
• 3 Science Credits
• 1 Foreign Language Credit
• 1 Communications/Performing Arts Credit
• 1 Gym/Nutrition Credit
We must look at our education system and see if we can invest in the future of America. If we cannot, we must look at how we can change that. We must fund the schools in ALL of America. Not just fund the rich schools, but also the schools that might be failing under NCLB, for fewer funds will not help; it can only HURT our educational system. And in a flat world, we cannot afford to fall behind of the world. We must keep up in this high demand world, and effective education is one way to do that.
