Polls

The one poll that matters is election day, but until then, Americans have to be content with polls conducted by/for news orginizations and political groups. In a WOODTV 8 poll, when asked

If the election for governor were held today, would you vote for Jennifer Granholm the Democrat, Dick DeVos the Republican, Gregory Creswell of the Libertarian Party, Bhagwan Dashaiya of the U.S. Taxpayer Party, or Douglas Campbell of the Green Party?

The answers were in favor of Governor Jennifer Granholm. 44% would vote for Jennifer Granholm with 4% leaning toward Granholm, making a total of 48% for Granholm. Dick DeVos falls behiend with 37% saying they would vote for Dick DeVos and 6% leaning toward DeVos, making a total of 42% for DeVos.

In the same poll, when asked who they would vote for for the Senate 50% said Debbie Stabenow the Democrat and only 38% said Michael Bouchard the Republican.

Another hot issue on this November's ballot is Prop. 2. The following question was asked:

Proposal 2 would amend the state constitution to ban affirmative action programs that give preferential treatment to groups or individuals based on race, gender, color, ethnicity or national origin for public employment, education or contracting purposes. Based on what you know or have heard or read about this issue, if the election were held today, would you vote YES in favor of the proposal or NO to oppose it? [IF UNDECIDED] Well, if the election were held today and you had to decide right now, would you lean toward voting YES to favor the proposal or NO to oppose it?

40% - Favor

44% - Oppose

16% - Undecided

Of other Prop's on the ballot, Prop 3, to make a hunting season for mourning doves has only 25% support. Also Prop. 5, funding for schools tied to rate of inflation has support of 43% and opposition of 40%.
