Iraq War Spending: Iraq And A Hard Place

The Democratically Controlled House and Senate have passed bills funding the Iraq war with billions of dollars more, but at the same time giving a date for withdrawing troops from Iraq. This is a great decision by the Democrats, putting President Bush on the spot; either get funding now and withdraw by the end of 2008 or veto the bill and get no funding at all. It is totally President Bush's decision and Congress has already made there decision.

Senate Armed Services Committee's chairman Carl Levin (Michigan!) said that "We are very, very serious about what the American people said in November," Levin said, referring to the election that put Democrats in charge of Congress. "They want a change of course."

Veep Dick Cheney said that he is "willing to bet" that Democrats will back down. But this is President Bush waiting for the Democrats to act; but the fact is that the Democrats have already acted and the President is acting like they haven’t because he doesn't like the result. The only way that the Democrats will back down is if the President (or what it seems like, the king) compromises with Congress; for compromise is the key to any democracy. With the President betting on the Iraq war, and not doing anything with Congress, then Mr. Bush is the one not supporting the troops.

Support The Troops. Bring Them Home.
