Bill Richardson is my choice for the Democratic nod for president in 2008. Why? He is a moderate and not as liberal on some issues as I am, but (and it is a big but) he has the most experience at all levels of government and he is strongly liked without a large group rallying against him, such as candidates Obama and Clinton do.
Gov. Richardson has been in Congress. Legislative experience check. Gov. Richardson has been an ambassador. International experience check. Gov. Richardson has been an energy secretary. Executive experience check. Gov. Richardson has been (of course) a governor of New Mexico. State experience check.
With international, national executive, national legislative and state experience he is the most prepared and qualified for the White House out of all the candidates.
He is also a moderate on many issue and not perceived as liberal as other candidates, such as Clinton, who many doubt can be elected for she seems to liberal for many voters.
Gov. Richardson also is pushing for full withdrawal from Iraq this year. According to Capitol Hill Blue, Gov, Richardson said at at a "Take Back America" conference that "I would leave zero troops. Not a single one. And if the embassy and our embassy personnel aren't safe, then they're all coming home too."
Other candidates running for the Democratic nod have no real date for withdrawing troops and are attempting to stay in the middle of the argument when it comes to Iraq. The other possible candidates say that the war is wrong and if they knew back at the time of the first vote to go to war what they do now they would not have voted in favor of going to Iraq. But the fact is they did and they must now live with that choice. But most do not push to withdraw (or any real change from current policy for that matter) to attempt to change course in Iraq. Gov. Richardson does and he is not standing down on this position, showing how he would act in the White House. The Democrats have been presented with a mandate by the American people, but they have yet to take action, action Gov. Richardson would take, showing the true weakness of the other candidates who are pandering to the ways of Washington.
The other choices for President are only doing what looks good. Gov. Bill Richardson is doing (and will continue to do) what is good.
