Bill Richardson: Iraq Or Education?!?!

Gov. Bill Richardson recently commented that "We need to get out of Iraq, where precious lives and needed dollars have been wasted." He went on to say that "We could use these resources to improve our schools and make the economy, once again, work for the middle class."

According to Bill Richardson for President, Gov. Richardson has also proposed in terms of educational funding and policy that he would scrap the No Child Left Behind Act, raise starting teacher salaries to $40,000, establish a federal Pre-K program, oppose private school tuition vouchers and make college accessible to every high school graduate among other proposals.

Currently, with the political landscape as it is, sadly not all of these proposals would be able to be achieved at the same time, as these proposals to SAVE public education are opposed by the Republicans who are continuing to push out public schooling and push for private education.

If, as Gov. Richardson proposes, that America leaves Iraq immeditely, we would have MORE THAN ENOUGH money not only to enact all of these proposals for education, but also many other needed reforms in such areas as health care, energy and the environment.
