The 2008 Election Looks Good For Democrats

The Republicans have a tall order winning the White House in 2008 no matter who they pick. Currently, when asked "If the 2008 election for president were being held today, do you think you would vote for the Democratic candidate or the Republican candidate?", a total of 46% said Democrat, 34% said Republican, 14% said Depends and 6% said Unsure. This according to a Quinnipiac University Poll Aug. 7-13, 2007.

If you total up all the persons saying they would vote Republican and added ALL of the persons saying depends, the Democrats would still come out on top, with the Republicans only receiving 48% of the vote! The total voting Republican of 34% is only one percentage point above the most current job approval rating for President Bush of 33% (FOX/Opinion Dynamics 8/21-8/22).

In a poll conducted July 19-22, 2007, 51% said they would vote Democratic, only 27% said Republican, 17% said unsure and 5% were declared neither.

Thus in the lead up to the race for the White House the Republicans have a long way to go to catch the Democrats. The Democrats, no matter who they vote to bring to the election have a good chance of beating ANY Republican nominee.
