O'Connor Resigns

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has resigned from the Supreme Court. Thus starts the long process of finding and confirming the replacement for her. She was a moderate consertive that sometimes voted on the liberal side. But now current President Bush might try and replace her with a heavly consertive justice. If this happens, the Republicans will effectivly have total control over all three branches of the government. The filibuster may be used if the president tries and nominate a person that will lean the court even more toward a Republican domination. Many people though, want to have a moderate consertive nominated. It would still let in a Repubican to the Justice, while at the same time, in some part, lessining the fight with Democrats over the new replacement. But good news is that Chief Justice William Rehnquist has stated that he will not resign anytime soon.
