US Base Closures
According to the New York Times the cost for the US Base Closings could be overstated to a tune of 36 billion dollars. The estimate of savings per year from closing the list of bases by the Pentagon is $50 billion, but the Base Realignment and Closing Commission says that the number looks closer to $14 billion per year. This over inflation of the savings is mostly due to the counting of savings of pay to the military personal that currently work in bases set to be closed, even though they will just move to different assignments and still get paid. The one time cost of all of the closings and movements of personal and equipment is about $28 billion dollars.
