Cut In Troop Levels

According to TheState.com, the Pentagon has plans to bring 20,000 troops out of Iraq after the election next week. The current troop level stands at about 155,000. But the Pentagon always stresses that the number to stay at the current level, or even increase, depending on the security situation.

According to some military analysts, the troop level could drop below 100,000 in the coming year. But Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has not officially confirmed any troop decrease and Defense Department spokesman Bryan Whitman said "we plan for every possible contingency." The current troop levels cannot be kept at these high numbers for many more years, and the possible homecoming of many troops is something everyone can be happy about.
