A nationwide survey, conducted from Nov 2001 to Jan 2002 by Michigan State University, sponsored by the National Science Foundation found:
- 66 percent opposed government monitoring of telephone and email conversations
- 92 percent opposed government investigation of non-violent protestors
- 82 percent opposed government use of racial profiling
- 77 percent opposed warrantless searches of suspected terrorists
- 53 percent opposed indefinite detention of terrorist suspects
- Nearly 55 percent indicated they were unwilling to allow the government broader powers to combat terrorism if those powers meant limiting traditional constitutional rights and liberties

Man, this shows how my tax dollars are being not only wasted, but squandered as well. Why in the world would anybody think that National Science Foundation budget money should be spent on an opinion poll about how people feel about governmental surveillance? I would expect my tax dollars going to NSF would be trying to solve global warming or cure cancer or improve the environment or something more beneficial than an opinion poll. Man, you really brought me down with that post.
