These cuts come at a time when we spend billions a month on Iraq. But that is NOT included in the budget. Many programs in the cuts are needed programs. President Bush has said some of the cuts come because the lack of data that the programs are working. One of these programs is the educational program GEAR UP. GEAR UP provides funds to "increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education."

This program is funded through the federal government to an amount of $306,488,320 in FY 2005. A total of 1,483,763 students were helped in FY 2004. All this according to the Department of Education's website. Well, to Mr. Bush, here is the data that you say didn't exist. This program along with many others SHOULD NOT be cut and I hope that Congressional leaders will see that.

DON'T CUT FUNDING FOR GEAR UP!!!
