Bush On Jailed Christian In Afghanistan

According to an article by CNN, "President Bush on Wednesday defended an Afghan who could face the death penalty for converting to Christianity. Afghan authorities are trying Abdul Rahman, a 41-year-old Christian convert, on charges of rejecting Islam -- a death-penalty offense under Afghanistan's constitution, which is based on Islamic law."

President Bush went into an Islamic country with traditions which have been in place for hundreds of years. The president pushed for a democratic government and has got little so far. The new government (and constitution) is based on Islamic law and as such, has different views from President Bush. Just as in Palestine when they elected Hamas, the president doesn't like the outcome.

President Bush has pushed for democratic reform in the Middle East, than doesn't like what he sees when the people vote for people and ideals that he doesn't support. The president starts these reforms and expects the countries to take the same stand on many issues.

Not every right that Americans have will be able to be replicated in all countries. Some differences occur. I personally wish that someone would not be killed for their religious beliefs, but the government is a sovereign government with the power of the people. That is what democracy still is, right!?!?
