Sen. John McCain recently went to Iowa and was campaigning for Republican candidates, when he said "We Republicans are going to have a tough race in 2006 because the country is not happy with us. We have a 25 percent approval rating in Congress."
Just to keep my records straight, the most recent poll I can find on the Republican approval rating in Congress is 29% in a FOX News/Opinion Dynamics Poll conducted April 4-5, 2006. The Democrats are at 29% in that same poll.
But ALL polls on whom a person will vote for in the mid-term elections are favoring the Democrats.
In the most recent poll, a ABC/Washington Post poll (4/6-9/06), 40% will vote for a Republican candidate, 55% will vote for a Democratic candidate, and 5% were undecided/unsure.
In a CBS poll (4/6-9/06), put Republicans at 34% and Democrats at 44%. 22% were undecided/unsure.
To put a conservative poll on this issue, a FOX/Opinion Dynamics poll (2/28 - 3/1/06, the most recent I could find), put Republican's at only 34% to the Democrat's 48%. 18% were undecided/unsure.
If you find any other more up-to-date polls, please let me know.
