For a bit of state news, the 2006 challenger to current Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) is Dick DeVos (R). The want-to-be governor said that he does not want to get into specific numbers on the single business tax and has proposed NO replacement for the money lost from the tax if it repealed. But current Gov. Granholm has clearly stated that she too wants it repealed but to have it replaced by a different business tax. Who would you rather have, a person with a plan or none at all?!?!
An editorial that appeared in the Lansing State Journal:
"Michigan is edging closer to a November vote on repealing the state's Single Business Tax.
Unfortunately, the Republican challenger for governor is not any closer to disclosing what he would do if the tax were repealed.
Just the opposite, in fact. Dick DeVos said at a Traverse City news conference on Tuesday he didn't want to get into specifics on replacing revenue of nearly $2 billion a year.
DeVos went on to say he may not reveal any specific plan at all - at least, not until after the November election. "I'm not going to get into the middle of a sort of pick-a-number time because this isn't about quick numbers," DeVos told the Associated Press."
