Open Letter To Senator Debbie Stabenow And Senator Carl Levin

Dear Sen. Stabenow/Sen. Levin,

I am a seventeen year old student who currently actively blogs online. And recently mass media outlets have started reporting on a proposal by telecommunications giants that there should be a so called two-tiered Internet system. This would help big telecommunication companies while hurting what the Internet stands for; freedom to see what you want, when you want to see it.

This two-tiered system would have fast lanes for websites that pay the telecommunication companies money, while websites who either choose to not pay or are unable to pay, will have slower load times, or those sites might not be able to be loaded at all. This would hurt a growing number of people who use the Internet as a place to receive information. Such places as blogs would not be available to most persons, such as myself, as paying to blog would be out of the question. People use the Internet after paying anywhere between 10 and 50 dollars a month to connect to the Internet. And for people who just want to setup a site for there family pictures or for a hobby like blogging, paying extra would not pay off. This would greatly hurt the freedom that has come with the Internet. Please oppose this proposed two-tiered Internet system.
