"This is only the beginning. The message has spread from Damascus to Tehran that the future belongs to freedom, and we will not rest until the promise of liberty reaches every people in every nation." - President Bush - 5/27/06
I do believe that freedom for all is something that is great in this nation. And I also believe that many countries in the world are good places for freedom to grow and prosper. But when we force freedom and democracy on other nations it is contradicting the reason for freedom. If we push democracy on others in the name of giving them a choice, who is there to say that we haven’t acted in our own interests and not in the interest in helping others.
We must not just go to Iran or other countries and push an ideal that is, for lack of a better term, foreign to them. There is already a great amount of resentment of America in the Middle East, and if we go into more Middle Eastern countries it is the great worry of many people that we will loose, for we will look more and more, like a colonial power, not a great liberator.
In the Persian Gulf War, that was justified. We attacked Iraq when they attacked another SOVERN country. But once we want to, we can attack a SOVERN country and have no repercussions. This is a contradiction that the ENTIRE WORLD is calling us on. We must not let this hypocrisy continue and America must become accountable to the world.
