Current Sen. Joe Lieberman lost the Democratic primary election to challenger Ned Lamont. So far Democrats have rallied around winner Ned Lamont and many have now said that Lieberman should not run as an independent. But not only is he still running, he is now criticizing the challenger who won already against him.
Lieberman recently said that "I'm worried that too many people, both in politics and out, don't appreciate the seriousness of the threat to American security and the evil of the enemy that faces us -- more evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet communists we fought during the long Cold War. If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again."
Such Democrats as Howard Dean and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson. Gov. Richardson said that "I look forward to supporting Ned as he fights to help Democrats take back the Senate, and I call on Joe Lieberman to respect the will of the voters and step aside."
I have to say that I agree with Gov. Richardson. Lieberman has lost, and he has the right to run as a independent. But as he lost a primary, how can an ex-Democrat win, when a) Democrats won't vote for him (at large) and b) Republicans won't vote for him. As most people vote either Democrat or Republican (in last presidential election less than 1% were non-two party votes), he has little to no chance to win the election. Lieberman said that the Democrats have been taken over by a left-wing group who is out of the mainstream. Well the same can be said about President Bush and many other politicians. Lieberman has lost against Lamont once and will again. 79% of Democrats nationwide are glad that Lieberman lost in his re-election bid to the US Senate. 12% were displeased with the outcome and 10% "said they were not sure what to think" (aka. unsure).

Reminds me of a line from a movie.
(Jamaican accent) "Him dead man, don't even know it yet."
I would not count Lieberman out yet. If the Democrats who voted for Lieberman in the primary stick with him and the Republicans vote for him, Lieberman's back in business. The funny thing is, Lieberman will continue in the Senate and the Democrats will have lost a seat!
I predict Lieberman will win in a squeaker.
