It's Been Quite A Long Time

It's been almost a month after my last post. Sorry for this long break. School has started and time has just flown by. But to get back into this blog head on I will post on the topic of our president, President George W. Bush.

Again, our great President is attempting to link two things, which until he made them linked, weren’t (if that makes sense). Up until we went into Iraq, Al Qaeda was NOT IN IRAQ. Nor did Iraq have any links to Al Qaeda. Saddam actually disliked Al Qaeda and kept them out of Iraq while he was in power. Only after the US invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam, did Al Qaeda come into Iraq and the UNITED STATES is than the ones to blame about this new battleground in the War on Terror.

Mr. Bush said (referring to the leaked National Intelligence Estimate) that "Some in Washington have selectively quoted from this document to make the case that by fighting the terrorists in Iraq, we are making our people less secure here at home. Five years after the 9/11 attacks, some people in Washington still do not understand the nature of the enemy. The only way to protect our citizens at home is to go on the offense against the enemy across the world." And across the world we go. But Iraq is where we put almost all our resources, when the terrorists were based out of AFGHANISTAN when they attacked on 9/11. Only after we invaded Iraq (for WMD's they didn’t have) did the terrorists move into Iraq. Making this link between Iraq and Al Qaeda AFTER we invaded is totally flawed. Mr. Bush is attempting to gain ground with the American people for a mistake he made. When a leader makes a mistake he/she should not rewarded. Quite the opposite, that leader (in this case President Bush) should be held accountable. But this so far has not happened and from the looks of it will not be anytime soon. Only time will tell if history will hold Mr. Bush accountable or not.

Recently President Bush has received higher marks in his approval ratings, but he has stayed far below 50% now for many months. He currently stands at 39% approval rating in a NBC/Wall Street Journal poll (9/30 - 10/2) and also 39% in a CNN poll (9/29 - 10/2). This is down from 42% from three different polls conducted in varying time between 9/22 and 9/27. Mr. Bush's approval ratings have been below 50% beginning in early 2004 and never coming above that mark for more than one rogue poll every once in a while.
