"The White House on Thursday defended President George W. Bush's rare use of a body count to describe Iraqi insurgent deaths as a way to show Americans that U.S. troops are fighting hard in Iraq.
Bush said on Wednesday on a visit to the Pentagon that U.S. and Iraqi forces had killed or captured 5,900 of the enemy during the months of October, November and early December."
This shows that Mr. Bush is just a war oppressed President. His legacy is Iraq and Iraq alone and history will judge him on Iraq's success or failure. And so he is reduced to, for lack of a better term, taking pride in thousands of deaths. While trying to justify the Iraq war and hundreds of Americans killed, President Bush cited that in three months (October, November, December) 5,900 Iraqi's were killed/captured. This number should not show how successful we are but how unsuccessful we are. If we killed only a handful that might show that we actually have support of the Iraqi people and have authority over this civil war.
But a civil war is a civil war and as such no one really has total control, or other wise it would not be war. So a number close to 6,000 is not something that should be taken lightly; this number should show that America needs change, and with the Democratic control of Congress, hopefully a change soon.
