Well, so far so good...At least America hopes. The minimum wage increase that the United States House has passed is a great victory not just for Congress but also for the American people. This will help millions of minimum wage workers nation wide and states will have to take notice and adjust there levels. The vote was 315-116. The bill increases the minimum wage over 26 months to $7.25 through a three-step process. This is a needed in America as the last increase was in 1997, the longest that a hike has been held off.
But this victory is in risk in the Senate, as Republicans do not support increases in the minimum wage without tax cuts and without those provisions it could face a filibuster with only the needed 41 supporters of the filibuster. Last year, Republicans attempted to get passage of the bill to repeal the federal estate tax, worth $267 billion to only the highest estates, with attaching a minimum wage increase to it. Democrats didn't bite and now they have their chance to pass the minimum wage without giving tax breaks to THE WEATHLY. Whenever the Democrats want to help Americans, Republicans are always looking out for the rich and this CANNOT be tolerated.
