"After eight years, President Bush and Dick Cheney have turned the GOP into the Gas and Oil Party. That's the legacy that they are going to leave."
-Edward Markey, US Congressman (D-MA)
With record gas prices hitting all over the country, of course it has been launched to the top of politics and with the issue taking center stage, our President has commented on this subject. To this end, President Bush has again stated that he is in favor of offshore drilling as well as drilling in ANWR. More drilling offshore is not the answer to our energy costs. As energy analyst Phillip Verleger stated for an NPR report on Morning Edition "we're only going to get out of this problem by using less."
And as for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), a great statement by Sen. McCain in that same NPR report was that "When America set aside the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, we called it a refuge for a reason." And that is a statement that is something I can simply agree with!
