Democrats Lead Republicans

In a poll conducted by Opinion Research Corp. for CNN, it showed "that 52 percent of respondents who were registered voters said they were leaning toward voting for a Democrat, while 38 percent said they were leaning toward a Republican...Among all Americans, the poll found 50 percent leaning toward Democrats, 37 leaning toward the Republicans and 3 percent intending to vote for non-majority candidates."

The president’s job approval ratings cannot be helping the Republican majority. They are in power and are shown as complacent, and approving, of the policies which the UNPOPULAR president is pushing for. With the Presidents job approval rating at only 31% (CBS/New York Times), only a few more percent of persons will vote Republican than approve of the President. This can lead to the Democrat’s regaining a majority in either one or both houses of Congress. This would be one step away from a Republican dominated government.

This would be a great improvement, as the Democrat’s could reduce many of the problems created by Mr. Bush and other top Republicans. First, we can reduce the tax cuts. We could make a BALANCED budget and start paying down the debt. Second, we could start greater international cooperation on many issues, and with new international multilateral actions we could restore the power of international originations, like the UN. Third, we could roll back the illegal wiretaps and warrantless searches that have come with the USA PATRIOT Act and many other practices in the post-9/11 era. And the list can go on and on. We must not just allow Mr. Bush to keep going on his crusade, by using peoples fears for his agenda, and end up like all the crusades in the Middle Ages; as total failures.

I keep encouraging you, Demoblogger, to avoid being influenced by polls. Instead, study history and establish a set of principles (hopefully the principles you discover will include individual liberty).

What can the New Democrats offer?

1. We can reduce the tax cuts - - - that really means, “We will increase your taxes!”

2. We can restore the power of the United Nations - - - oh, great - - - ask the victims of Patrice Lamumba how they feel about that! - - - and let's not forget Kofi Anan's son and the Oil for Food scandal.

3. We can roll back illegal wiretaps and warrantless searches - - - I'm sorry, by the genie is out of the bottle, my friend. Privacy is a thing of the past.

I would have to say that polls can do our country good. Now polls should not be the only factor on policies, but when a fairly large majority of Americans think that something should not be done, than it shouldn't. That is the blessing of a Democracy. Without the democratic value of popular sovereignty, we loose what our country is about. Polls are one way to see how OTHER Americans, not just yourself, feel on an issue in today’s society. You may not like polls, but with the Information Age, they are a reality. Using your words, "the genie is out of the bottle, my friend."

Ok, but what is your definition of a fairly large majority ?.

Is it 52% ?

Is it 56% ?

Is it 61% ?

Newsmedia polls of the American populace are the most demogoguic, the most tyrannical, indeed the most subversive form of journalism today !

What about this poll question - - - - -

How did you like your pill today?
