Governor Jennifer M. Granholm: State Of The State and The Budget

The Governor recently gave her State of the State address [transcript can be found here]. She outlined many different options on different issues, mainly the economy in Michigan. As everyone knows the economy in Michigan has been struggling and the budget for Michigan has thus been hit hard as well. She also outlined educational goals and funding, as well as infrastructure projects.

One of her goals on the economic front is to diversify. Manufacturing is not the only way that Michigan should (or even can) support itself anymore. She knows that we must market the state of Michigan as a good place to move a company as well as supporting small businesses and entrepreneurship.

She also outlined the fact that we must always transform government to become more effective and become more efficient (which can save MONEY).

She also touched on the fact that we must have high quality for education and training for people within Michigan. With more education and job training, Gov. Granholm believes that we can help the economy by having more qualified workers to attract more businesses to Michigan.

She also talked about what many people around the country are talking about, affordable health care. This topic is not just exclusive to Michigan and everyone around the country is attempting to solve the problem of high health care costs. Gov. Granholm is proposing ways to assist persons within Michigan with this growing crisis, including universal access and promoting heath insurance for the under- and uninsured.
